Who is Calgary Minor Softball?
Calgary Minor Softball is a minor sports association that has 10 clubs in their umbrella. They are responsible for running the spring/summer/fall season!
How do I register?
Every Community Club in Calgary is designated to a Calgary Minor Softball Club. If you do not know which Association you belong to please refer to the Club Boundary List, found under the Clubs - Registration tab. The List contains the names of each District along with the Community Districts that are designated to it.
Do players have to register with their designated Softball Club?
Yes, players must register within their own club.
What Size Ball Does My Category Use?
U9, U11, and U13 uses an 11" core 47 optic ball
U15, U17, and U19 uses a 12" core 47 optic ball
When does a team require a travel permit?
A team requires a travel permit to participate in any exhibition or tournament game outside of Alberta, regardless of the distance. A permit may be obtained by contacting Softball Alberta www.softballalberta.ca
Do players have to register within the proper age category?
Calgary Minor Softball does permit overage players but only under very specific conditions. Please reach out to your club/calgaryminorsoftball for more information on this.
Why is the Category meeting in person?
The category meeting is in person so that all people can recognize each other and get familiar before the season. In person meetings are also known to make people retain more information.
How can I increase my coaching skills?
You can increase your coaching skills by taking more softball courses on the coach.ca website. It is also beneficial to take leadership courses.
Why do we play twice per week? Why not make one of those days a practice time?
Playing a double header at some levels of play can be extremely difficult. Playing 1 game/game night allows for teams to really focus on being in the game.
Why do I not have an umpire?
Due to the current state of umpires, we are unable to provide umpires to all games throughout all divisions. We value all divisions and will continue to work to grow our umpire numbers. If you want to become an umpire, please visit the CMSUA website.
How do teams know what level to register into for tournaments and provincials?
Calgary Minor Softball does not dictate what division teams should be entering into for tournaments and provincials. tournament hosts decide where teams enter into their tournament. Softball Alberta governs provincial play and provincial rules as to where teams enter.
What is a team manager?
Team managers are there to help out the coaches. They submit scores, score keep, and do a few other tasks that can be decided between the team like gamechanger or lineups.
Where can I find resources on drills and coaching?
Calgary Minor Softball has a great library of resources for coaches. You can find this on the CalgaryMinorSoftball.com website under Coaches - Resource Videos and Materials
How can I find out if I have an umpire?
Email UmpireRequest@calgaryminorsoftball.com after 2pm, you can check the status of your umpire!
How is ranking determined for City Championships?
Calgary Minor Softball uses win percentage to determine ranking.
Game Cancellations
Coaches will be notified of game cancellations via email. It will also be posted to our Social Media and our Website. Games are rarely cancelled due to the vast area that is Calgary Minor Softball.
What is the weather policy and where can I find it?
The weather policy is it needs to be at least +4 degrees Celsius. As well as our thunder and lightning policy of if lightning or thunder occurs, the field must be cleared for 30 minutes following the last thunder/lightening.

Where can I find the Rulebook?
The online rulebook can be found under 2025 Season. Each team also receives two copies of the Calgary Minor Softball Rulebooks.
Who schedules the Provincial Playdowns?
Softball Alberta schedules the dates for provincials playdowns. We work with Zone 3 to ensure that the dates and times don’t conflict with the Cities Schedule.
